Move to Xenforo 2

Zrcalo commissioned me to move the old forums over to Xenforo 2. Sadly, the archives only seem to go up to about mid-2017 so the more recent stuff is gone. Tens of thousands of posts and all the user accounts and DMs were saved, though!

This forum is being set up with a dedicated blog section as well as a wiki for the glossary type terms that were seen on the original Fictionkin blog.

I am still working on getting everything set up. I will post again when the setup is done.

Hello! I must say I was surprised when I logged on here, but I'm quite glad something is being done to revive these forums. I figured that'd mean the website would have to be updated eventually.
I do only lurk in the Fictionkin community now for personal reasons, but I was very active on this forum a few years ago, although unfortunately not enough years back for the rollback to not have cut into some of the posts I made. I'm glad to hear that a large majority of the posts were saved, since looking at my old writings is the main reason I'd pop back on here every now and then.
So how would one access these posts? Are they able to be sent by e-mail or something to users, or will they be reintegrated into the forum later? Hopefully this is the right place to ask such things.

I would have given users a heads up to save their posts and such, but we didnt even realize it was missing all the posts from 2018-2020 in the database before we moved it over. there were several folders with different information in them, and we took the largest one to import. unfortunately the way the old forums were coded and organized was so bad that it died when PHP was updated. Hence why we moved it to completely different software.

so.. tl;dr: zrcalo tried to press the "your site is insecure, please update PHP now" button on the old forums and they broke, so we just dropped down cash to fully update them.

Ah ok, that's understandable. Good on you all for not just letting the forum die.
So all the 2018-2020 data's basically just in files, and the kinks have to be worked out of the old coding in order to integrate them into the new site, or is that not what you mean?

if we're even able to do that. we'd have to make a whole new test forum to upload all the archives to, to see what's there. the other files were pretty small, so I'm guessing not much had been posted since. there were several fragmented archives (iirc) and we'd have to load/wipe each one to get data off them. it's an undertaking in and of itself, but all the data is still there. it's just inaccessable.

Oh ok, I see.
Well, I don't think I personally have much from in that timeframe, and I'm perfectly willing to be patient (if it's even a possible undertaking), so take all the time you need. Just let me know if those files ever come out their inaccessable state =)

no worries! will do

Honestly, I was also incredibly upset to hear that the last 3 years were deleted because those posts are a way to look back at your past thoughts and the such, so I'm adding another hand to "people who would be extremely appreciative if, in the future, some efforts were made to access and retrieve those newer posts". I did not think that there would be no effort to backup all the data before moving to a new platform. It is true that due to the forum becoming much, much less active, there aren't as many posts as there were prior, but it is still a reasonable amount of history. I'm extremely glad to hear that the data at least hasn't been absolutely wiped and is technically in existence even if it is inaccessible at the moment, because it is still history. I apologize if this is badly worded. Thank you for what you have done, even if it's incomplete as of now.

Also, unrelated, but I noticed that 'Skype' shows up twice in the Account Details area, both in the top section and in the bottom 'Identities' section.
